Keyword Research

What is Keyword Research?

Keyword research is an absolutely necessary service you need if you wish to compete for organic rankings in the digital space.  Keyword research is the process of identifying popular search terms your clients are using to look for your products and services.  By researching keywords, you’ll be able to create content that incorporates popular search terms, making your pages more relevant and higher ranking in Search Engine Result Pages (SERPS).  Higher rankings in SERPS mean more customers looking for you.  And of course, more customers means higher earnings.

How is Keyword Research Done?

At GetWebMax.com, we have a custom proprietary toolkit that allows us to determine what people are searching for, including the terms they use in different geographic areas.  We can determine what words people are using in a national level, or within a certain distance of a desired location.  For example, if you’re a mechanic you may hear your customers tell you that they really appreciate an honest mechanic. (Most people certainly do!).

You might think that it would be wise to create a page specifically targeting a search for “Honest Mechanic”.  It sounds like a great strategy.  However, we’ve actually done the research for this example.

Keyword Search Results

The most commonly used keywords to locate a mechanic in Canada are:

Auto Mechanic – 3000 to 4000 search queries a month

Car Repair – 1700 – 2900 search queries a month

Car Repair Shops – 500 – 850 search queries a month

Honest Mechanic – < 100 search queries a month

Keyword Search Analysis

As a mechanic, using your idea of “Honest Mechanic”, and creating a page with that term would be a colossal waste of time and money if you were trying to target the most common searches available.  If your strategy was to go after less frequently used keywords in the hopes that you would be competing in a less-crowded space, then you’d have to do further research to determine if enough people in your area are using that keyword.  It wouldn’t be enough to simply use the results from Canada country wide, because most people wouldn’t drive across the country to have their car repaired.

Keyword Research and implementation is absolutely critical in order to appear at the top of search engine rankings ahead of your competition.
